Dining Out: Kozmo Gastro Pub

A lot of my northern friends are often tweeting, blogging, or otherwise bragging about the wonderful gastronomic feat that is poutine. For those who are unfamiliar, the concept is french fries with cheese curd and a boat-load of gravy. Much to my surprise, finding purveyors of gravy-covered fried foods in a southern town proved harder than one would expect.

I was quite pleased to read on another blog about Kozmo Gastro Pub near my office that was serving up what was described as a quality rendition. With plenty of time to spare after having to leave work last week early due to the forthcoming (one day) Snowmageddon, I decided to head around the corner and check it out for myself. First things first, this poutine has NO GRAVY. Now I know I’m small in stature but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy to eat, and it especially doesn’t mean that I’m afraid to put on more weight. I’m not going to go so far to say that it was bad, however, this poutine was closer to the Texas Fries from Fox Brother’s BBQ than anything what most purists would consider authentic poutine, mainly because it’s just brisket and cheese. Don’t get me wrong, I have a whole post about the glories of Fox Brother’s brisket for another day, I don’t object to it, however I felt I had been dealt the classic bait-and-switch from Kozmo Gastro Pub. Would I go back, probably, the sandwiches and sides were reasonably good, the drink specials looked like an enticing reason to stop in after a long day at the office, and I’m keen to see how the dinner menu differs from the lunch time selections. I, however, unfortunately do not see faux-poutine in my future
