A Lengthy Weekend Recap

I will go ahead and tell you now, this is going to be a rather lengthy post. Coming of an excellent impromptu weekend that took me to New York for Dub War NYC in the city, and Watchtower Wobble, a bass music party in New Paltz, NY which celebrated it’s one year anniversary this past weekend. Unfortunately due to the volcano issues from Iceland, Geiom was unable to make it to DubWar NYC this month, however Mike Slott filled in and good friends Distal and Mite were added to the line-up Friday morning, so on a whim I called in a favor and got a cheap ticket to NYC for the night.

Originally planning to only stay up for the night I was fortunate enough to link up with Rodan and Bloom, hosts of the Watchtower Wobble event in New Paltz and got invited to come stay and play a set. Pics, videos, stories and a whole lot more after the jump!

Big shouts to everybody I had an opportunity to see again and those who I met for the first time this weekend namely Brockolio, Incyde, Seckle, TinyMCRodan, and Bloom. My apologies to all my NY-based friends who I missed due to the lack of advance warning, I’ll try and be a little more forthcoming on details next time!

I jokingly made comments Thursday and Friday to Distal and Mite that if they were added at the last second to the Dub War line up for this month that I’d come on up and party with them. Fortunately it seems fate had it in the cards as they got added to the lineup in the middle of the afternoon, which set off a chain of events that involved me finding a plane-ticket at the last minute and flying up to NYC with nothing more than my iPod, a set of headphones and the clothes on my back. My first visit to Club Love for Dub War was quite simply more than I could have expected. Amazing sets from Incyde, Mike Slott and Falty DL. Falty’s set was absolutely mind-blowing featuring a club taking it’s shoes off when Footcrab got dropped, and a nice little dnb section in the mix featuring Squarepusher – My Red Hot Car, and Luke Vibert – Screwface, a personal favorite I have not heard in years, and never in a club setting, among the selections.

Fellow Atlanta Dubstep crew members Distal and Mite took over the decks at Club Love for a short tag set. The NYC crowd was definitely going hard on the local Atlanta sounds from these two, and at certain points in the evening I distinctly remember the whole club chanting A-T-L. Much respect to everybody at Club Love for showing these up-and-comers from Atlanta some well earned respect.

Joe Nice closed out the evening in style, as always featuring some amazing selections from Mala / DMZ throughout his set, in addition to his impeccable beat-juggling of Distal’s “Serengeti” which seems to get crazier every time I see, or hear him do it.

That night, with nowhere really planned to stay for the night, playing things totally by ear I got an invitation to ride to New Paltz to catch the one year anniversary of Watchtower Wobble, and even better Rodan was courteous enough to extend an invitation for me to join the line-up between his set and Distal and Mite’s headlining set. Hands-down this night goes out as one of the best events I have seen, and obviously as a result extremely humbled and excited to have been a part of the excitement. New Paltz crew goes hard all night long on the dancefloor and this crew is receptive to the whole spectrum of dance music. I took things deep in the 140-vibe all night pulling out classic Kode9 selections and new deep tunes from Ramadanman and Scuba and the floor kept going hard all night-long. Distal and Mite kept the night going with selections of acid house, dubstep and juke and kids were knocking down the barricade in front of the booth all night long. New Paltz / Watchtower Wobble, you showed Atlanta Dubstep an amazing time, we were more than excited to be a part of your one year festivities.
