While the obscure and inexplicable sounds of darker dubstep have always interested me, my appreciations for it hardly define my expectations for club music as a whole. Such seems to be the case of Ramadanman and Appleblim, two producers who’s darker half-step productions at time have been dubstep in earnest. It suffices to say that neither of these two should be regarded as merely additions to the bustling dubstep scene. Similar to these two, while I enjoy the disheartening sides of dubstep, deep inside I hold a penchant for the smoother, funkier sounds of house music. The comparisons between myself and these two pretty much end here; both have established themselves not only as top tier DJs across a spectrum of music as wide as the bpm range it covers, but also as musical ambassadors; between them the resumes include founding the Skull Disco, ApplePips, and Hessle Audio labels, undoubtedly cornerstones in curating some of the most unique sounds in the current underground dance movement.
On top of all these talents, let it not be forgotten these two are some of the most unique and prolific producers around right now. Ramadanman has produced more tracks in 2010 than some artists have had signed in their entire career. The two have combined efforts most recently for the house-infused ‘Void 23,’ a 9 minute tech-house epic. Deep in all the right places, heavily groove minded and employing classic house production elements, the pair have crafted a release that is deservedly one of the most anticipated releases of the winter release season.
In case these are not reasons enough to warrant purchasing this release, it should be mentioned the B-side is graced by a remix by Detroit techno legend Carl Craig who’s masterful edit of the tune further accentuates it’s funk elements in a manner that all who have followed Craig respect, and appreciate.
Void 23 EP is available as a 12″ vinyl release from Aus Music from all fine retailers.
