SCB Podcast for CLR

Aside

SCB - CLR Podcast #168Paul Rose revisits his SCB moniker for this week’s Chris Liebing’s curated CLR podcast series.

Originally the SCB project was conceived as an antidote to the characteristic broken beats of the Scuba sound, as was shown on the first SCB release, a remix of Scuba’s own Hard Boiled taken from the album A Mutual Antipathy in 2008.[*]

Distal – Civilization (TECCD014)

Featured

Distal - Civilization (TECCD014)Distal‘s first full-length release Civilization will finally ship on the highly esteemed Tectonic Recordings label on April 30.

After my first few listens, quite simply, Civilization is a breath of fresh-air to Tectonic. Distal will be the first to cite Pinch‘s influence in his own work, however Civilization transcends what most expect from the legendary label. Tracks exploring a wide palette of styles, not simply BPM, with the unmistakable aesthetic of a Distal production. More importantly the tracks and their arrangement do feel cohesive, a craft that seems to elude many full length releases in the current wave of electronic music.

XI – Joy/Fear (NK34)

XI - NK34 (Cover)Three new tracks from the XI, following his recent relocation from his homebase of Toronto to Berlin, the undeniable epicenter of electronic music. It has been some time since XI’s output could be called ‘dubstep‘ however one hears earlier influences of the one-time DubWarNYC headliner’s earlier work in this latest release for New Kanada.

The three track release from XI draws on the influences of the producer’s newfound home in Berlin, making it’s release on New Kanada, a perfect fit for a label who’s back catalogue includes artists such as Seuil, and Basic Soul Unit,

Redshape – Throw In Dirt (3024-017)

Redshape (3024-017)

Martyn‘s 3024 label keeps 2012 moving with it’s latest release from masked techno stalwart Redshape. The two tracks selected for this release ‘Throw In Dirt’ and the b-side ‘The Land’ exhibit a more soulful Detroit influence than Redshape’s previous remix contributions to 3024, in that they are colder, citing a markedly Berlin influence. This latest release, heavy in soul and hi-hat trickery, make it clear to see why it merits attention on this site.

The release is available now in digital formats in all reputable online shops, as well as 12″ for the vinyl inclined.
